Noosa District Rugby Union Club was incorporated in 1985. Surrounded by beautiful parkland and beaches, our home, Dolphin Oval is located in Noosa on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Known as Noosa Dolphins, we currently have 22 senior and junior teams participating in the local Sunshine Coast amateur club rugby competition.
From modest beginnings, training and playing on borrowed turf in Tewantin, the Club’s forefathers paved a foundation that sees Noosa Dolphins rich with tradition, strong bonds and success both on and off the field. Since our first grand final appearance against Maroochydore Swans in 1988, Noosa Dolphins has proudly appeared in 31 First Grade deciders with premiership wins on 16 occasions. Numerous premiership successes by Reserve Grade, Women and Under 19 Colts teams have earned our Club the title of ‘Leaders on the Sunshine Coast’.
The commencement of juniors in 1990 and its subsequent development sees our Dolphins Junior Program recognised by Queensland Rugby for its continuing growth and popularity within the Noosa area. Noosa Dolphins Juniors are represented by multiple teams in most age groups from under 6 to under 17 Junior Colts.
With the support of Sunshine Coast Rugby Union’s representative pathways players have the opportunity to perform at trials for selection in representative teams. While we humbly boast a rich history of players that have represented the Club at regional, state, national and international levels the key to our Club’s on-field success is the retention of our junior players who progress through to the Dolphins senior ranks. It is an achievement our Club is most proud of.
Noosa Dolphins is strongly supported by the local business community. Our long-term partnership with many of our sponsors allows us to operate professionally and provides significant opportunities for growth through the maintenance and improvement of our facilities and player development. In return, our Club’s global exposure, visitors to our grounds and a full calendar of events provides an ideal networking platform for all our community partners and sponsors.
Socially, we schedule a diverse range of annual functions and events. This includes our Season Launch, Sponsors Day, Ladies Day, Back2Noosa Day, Presentation Day/Night, Noosa International Sevens Tournament and most recently our venue hosted the national touring, all-ages music festival ‘The Drop’ as a part of the Noosa Festival of Surfing.
Unreservedly, the strength of our Club lies in the contribution of our volunteers. Noosa Dolphins volunteers dedicate countless seen and unseen hours, offering their skills, their time and their energy to help create a strong and dynamic Rugby community. Across our Club, from our sponsors, to our volunteers and supporters, to of course our players… we are the Mighty Dolphins!
