About the award...

The Bell Park Coach of the Year Awards are designed to recognise coaching service and excellence in promoting the game, the development of players and the values of the Bell Park Football Club.

The Purpose of the Bell Park Coach of the Year is to:

  • To recognise the significant contribution of coaches to the conduct and development of Australian Rules Football at Bell Park. 
  • To recognise the achievements of coaches who give quality service to the game in that they:
  • Display strength of character in the role of coaching
  • Foster enthusiasm for, interest in, and an excellent attitude towards participation in football
  • Give quality value to the goals and purposes of Bell Park Football Club

Coaches at any level can be nominated, but the broad guidelines for each section are as follows:

Auskick:  5-7 years. Introduce beginner footballers to the game, concentrating on skill development and enjoyment to ensure continuing interest and involvement in the game 

Junior: Primary School-aged children, 7-12 years. Introduce beginner footballers, develop team concepts, emphasise skill development through training and games.

Youth (Male and Female): Secondary School-aged children, 13-19 years. Develop player potential, enhance team skills and foster competitive spirit and desirable attitudes through training and match play.

Senior: Open age competition. Optimise the available individual and team potential while projecting sound attitudes concerning the welfare of football in general.

All Abilities: Open age competition. Foster an enjoyment of the game, develop skills and sportsmanship through training and match play.


Selection Criteria

  • Leads by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship
  • Uses coaching techniques appropriate to develop the skills of individual players as well as to improve team performance
  • Provides excellent feedback to assist in skill development, and game skills
  • Does his/her best to provide a safe playing environment for all players
  • Is knowledgeable of the rules/game styles of football, and teaches these rules/game styles to improve team and individual performance
  • Places player well being ahead of a desire to win

If nominating a Junior Coach:

  • Remembers that he or she is a junior sports coach, and that the game is for kids, not adults.
